Excursiónes

Hey all! So this post is going to consist of primarily photos with captions. There are 3 different parts of it, though, and they are Aguas Agrias, La Laguna de Apoyo, and the Granada bike tour. Casa Xalteva hosts excursions each week for the students that come here to learn Spanish. They are usually between $7.00 and $15.00 and include things like trips to the local volcanoes, tours of the islands in Nicaragua Lake, trips to local markets, trips to local points of interest, and, in this case, a bike tour of Granada and the surrounding area.

Parte Uno: Aguas Agrias

This was an excursion to a swimming hole about 30 minutes away...

In the background you can see Mombacho, the inactive volcano on the outskirts of Granada

Parte Dos: La Laguna de Apoyo

This was a staff getaway trip to the local point of interest called "La Laguna de Apoyo", a lake within a volcanic crater. It was absolutely beautiful and we spent the majority of the day there relaxing and unwinding a bit one Friday. It seems like I have been here for at least a month...but it has only been 2 1/2 weeks.

Parte Tres: Tour de Granada en Bicicleta

There is a man that works at Casa Xalteva named Andrés and he is in charge of the excursions. This particular one was a 4 hour bike tour of Granada and the surrounding area. It was a ton of fun, and the two other girls that accompanied are named Emily and Amanda, both visiting for just over a week from Wisconsin. At one point Andrés' bike had a flat tire so I was caught biking with two bikes while Andrés biked with Emily Nica (Nicaraguan) style. We made our way to a nearby (subjective adjective) bike repair shop and got everything all worked out.

How much good could Fudrucker's do with this bad boy.....?

Amanda tearin' it up

So Andrés is cutting open this fruit....which turned out to be amazingly disgusting, quite disappointing.

The God-cursed tree that bore the remarkably unappetizing fruits

Biking Nica style. It is amazing how many people can fit on a single bike...you will understand what I mean after coming here and walking the streets a bit

Mombacho

A little off-roading with an unlikely set of wheels

And I will leave you all with a beautiful view from the upper level where I live and a gorgeous Nicaraguan sunset. By the way, it is about 22:30 here in Granada...aaaaaaaand 82 degrees Fahrenheit.
View from my balcony/courtyard area.

I guess that's not quite a sunset....
....there we go. They do get much better though, I will have to see what I can do!
